86,000,000 Households

I bought this poster and it has really got me thinking (infuriated).

In 2009, it was estimated that 75.2% of US households had a positive net worth.  According to 2009 Census data, that would be roughly 86,000,000 million households.

Implying that 86,000,000 households in America execute on something that 536 representatives that approve our US Federal budget don't.  

Spend less than you make.

I know it isn't easy, but it sure ain't cheap.

What if Charities Refused Your Money?

What if they would only take your time/talent?

Sure you could bring money to help buy things etc. when you show-up.

I checked out the girl effect and watched the video, toured around the site and got all geeked up!  I was excited to see the video bring up the point that "money" wasn't going to change the world.  Then I got to the end...and they asked for money...just send money.  No way to donate time/talents...just money.

Alas...

Does anyone else feel this way?  Sure we give money...but I want to give more, my time and talents.  

How do I start a charity that really helps people without relying solely on money?  Real people helping real people in the "flesh".  

Anyone have any ideas?

Google Chrome

Hey everyone! It has been a while...busy busy busy. It is a shame.

 If you haven't heard about Google Chrome...you just did.

Now go download and use it.

I have been eagerly anticipating its arrival since I heard about it (two days ago)!

The first thing I noticed...it is fast! Noticeably faster than Explorer or Firefox or anything else I have used.

It looks a little different and may be a little work to use it first, but I think it will be worth the effort!

Taking time to dance

Great quote in a new song from Thriving Ivory called Angels on the Moon...

"Don't tell me where the road ends, cause I just don't want to know."

Even better I just danced around the bedroom with Jen...with our two little onlookers propably wondering what we are up to...or why we don't do it more often.

It took all of 4 minutes and 13 seconds out of our day...but started it our right!

Taking the time to dance...it isn't easy and it sure ain't cheap!

Alive!

I love spending time with my daughter.  She is three.  I love playing with her, reading books, watching movies, cleaning the house or car, fixing something...the list goes on and on.

I always thought it was because she was my daughter, flesh and blood, some internal motor that drives me to spend time with her.

It is not.

It is because she is so alive!

Everything...everything she does is just bubbling with life.  Her eyes jump out of her head and scream "I am alive and it is great!"

Why do we grow up and lose that?  Where does it go?  Why do we let it go? 

I looked at my eyes in the mirror...they aren't even interested in standing up, much less jumping out and they are saying "you look tired."

I compared that to a picture of several years ago...I looked a lot more alive several years ago.

It is not age...I have met people 2.5 times my age that still had that spark in their eyes.

What are your eyes saying?

Not another picture of Britney's bald head

I am rather tired of seeing pictures of Britney's bald head.  So I am not going to include one in this post...no links to bald pictures either.

I am amazed that it has taken over the news for the last week.  Her meltdown has been more important that what caused the death of Anna Nicole Smith.  More coverage than the diaper wearing astronaut.  Even the presidential hopefuls latest hygiene habits (or other pointless information) have taken an apparent back seat.

But somebody help me.  All the crazy things that Britney has done over the last several months and now she has "lost it" because she shaved her head?  Shaved her head?  She has had a "meltdown" because she shaved her head?  Huh?

Don't shave your head and have a good one!

It has been a long time...

And I have missed you guys!

It has been a crazy couple of months in my family.

We had some great family news that you can see to the right here.  Another child is on the way!  We are very excited!  We have been trying for number two for quite some time.  We had a bit of a scare when we were first notified of the baby's presence, but everything seems to be going along just fine now.  We are very grateful.

We bought and moved into a home...no more rent, very exciting!  Of course with the new home there were some things we wanted to do (updating, painting, etc.) and had the time to do them before we moved in.

We had a bit of a sad time, as my Grandmother passed away rather suddenly.  We will miss her dearly.  However, we celebrate her life as she lived a great one and was a beautiful woman who was an example to everyone.

We got two kittens for our daughter for Christmas.  They are fantastic cats.  Fun loving and lovable.  One has had a cold since we got him...sick of cleaning up cat snot, but that is my only real complaint.

Throw the holidays in there and the next thing you know 2-3 months have gone by without a post.

We are settling into our new home, things are returning to normal, so I hope to be back with you guys on a regular beat.

That being said, I am glad that I have had the time away.  It does take time and energy to do the posting, and with all that was going on, I wanted to carve away as much energy as I could to be with my wife and daughter.  It is great we are slowing down again.  Returning to nights playing on the floor with my daughter.  Snuggling with my wife as we watch something mindless on TV is back.  It couldn't have come soon enough!

But it is great to be back!  Have a good one!

Facing Life's Unpleasantness

We found out yesterday that a former neighbor (and a current friend) lost his wife to cancer.  We received the notice in an e-mail.

Boy I didn't want to deal with that.  I didn't want to let it affect me, make me cry, have to think of an appropriate response.  Life was too busy, we had a lot going on.

I am glad I did 'deal' with it.  Took a moment to empathize, shed a few tears, be a virtual shoulder to cry on and offer some words of encouragement.

In this stupid rat race that we make out of life, it is moments like these that true me back to humanity and the important stuff of life.  Not the 'good' things.  Not the easy the things.  It is the difficult things, the things that take strength of character to do.

It isn't cheap and it sure ain't easy.  Have a good one!
